Walking To New Wells

As I am reading through Genesis and the journey that was undertaken by Abraham and then Isaac I am seeing things that are really speaking to me.

As Abraham navigated through the journey of his becoming who God said he was and was to be. He traveled faithfully, entering lands that were ruled by opposing people. He was met with resistance, and it revealed the internal fears that come with growing in our walk and purpose. But each time he continued to walk away increased. This journey of discovery and revealing was refining him, purifying him, and also bringing him into greater dependence on the Word of his God. The Kings of these nations would bless him and add to his wealth as he was ultimately sent along his way. Something powerful was taking place that you and I need to understand and unearth in this heavenly treasure.

There was Provision within the Path.

God pulled the resources from the land everywhere he went and added it to Abraham.

It was in the journey of faith and trust. It was in the willingness to confront the internal fears but still push through (even while getting it wrong to be honest). It was in the submission and the faith in the salvation plan of God that this promise was being fulfilled.

He had to walk to where the New Well was. So do you and I. We have to journey with God. We have to get our feet dusty, and He will lead us along the path.

This is a generational principle. This blessing was imparted and bestowed upon the next generation with the command to remember what God has and is doing.

We see Isaac as he continues in his father’s footsteps. Being the torch bearer of the promise and covenant. Isaac also saw kings pouring into his life and adding to his wealth and resources.

Isaac ran into different struggles and different types of opposition than his father did. The enemy had a “new sword” of sorts and there were new lessons to be learned. But the command remained the same. Remember. Remember WHO God is, remember His character and nature. Remember His faithfulness and trust in his plan to redeem.

Isaac had direct attempts to shut up what was needed to survive, to literally stop the flow of blessing and life for him and those who he cared for. I know you have felt the same. I know that you have walked along this path as have I, where the “well” is stopped up and you are in need of a life giving source.

Remember. Call to remembrance the testimonies of your Father!

Even when those old sources of life and provision were quite literally stopped up (the wells his father dug and the wells he had dug 3 different times) God continued to lead, guide and provide.

It is so easy to get discouraged when we run into a dry well or a place that gets shut up that was once flowing. But there is a promise in place. A Dabar word, something that God has already established and agreed to.

In following God on the path that He has decreed for you, you will find the new water, the fresh water that is needed to prosper. As I look closely at Genesis 26, I see that the old place of life or “revelation” were highjacked by those not connected to God. They took the life giving source for themselves. The NKJV calls them “herdsmen” which is the same word used for shepherds that is used to describe people set over God’s flock. I am seeing a picture playing out in these verses of “shepherds” that are outside the covenant with God trying to cling to the previous flow of life. Rebuking those who are the promise carriers, from accessing it again.

How have we seen, in leadership, these “old wells” coveted and clung to as their only source? But God has new wells on the path. He directs and leads to His fresh Living Water.

You and I are going to have unique challenges on our path. I pray that you remember who God is. I pray that you recall the testimonies of His faithfulness. Whether they are your personal testimonies or what He’s done for others. Proclaim then often to Him!

Walk your path, seek out the New Wells. There is Provision in your Path!
