THE WHY:
Just Add Wilderness has a vision to help see our children confident and empowered in their walk. Part of this includes wilderness skills.
I am a father of 4 wonderful kids, and love to take them on my adventures. We would adventure and explore deep into the Colorado backcountry. One of my main concerns was safety. Would my children be able to handle an emergency situation if something were to happen to me? So I began to teach them basic survival skills. The goal was to help them be confident and competent until help could arrive.
Wilderness Kids is designed to help impart confidence into our youth. The more confident we are the more capable and safe we are in the wilderness.
We begin by creating mini first aid kits together. Walking through what is piece is for and how to use them.
Each child will be provided with the materials for their very own survival first kit. As we hand out each item, there will be explanation and instruction on how to use them.
Kits will also include materials to start a matchless fire. The kids will have the opportunity to practice learning how to use these items and start their very first matchless fire. (Under supervision…lol)
There will be other activities as well depending on the size of each class.
Parents will be required to be present and encouraged to participate with their children.
The Wilderness Kids Event location is dependent on the size of the group and the focus of the instruction. Details will be sent upon registration for each event location.
