I see many people struggling, and they’ve prayed the prayers and gone to war spiritually. I want to suggest it may be something else. A place for you to take inventory of.
There are 3 ways we see throughout the Bible that God’s people were attacked and destroyed.
1. Famine – Typically, we think of a lack of food, but it is also used in the Bible to describe the lack of God’s word. Where are you feeling famished? Has there been a reduction in your quiet time? Have you been getting too busy doing that you are having less and less time abiding? How is your spiritual nourishment?
2. Sword – Literally a cutting tool like a knife, etc. But it is also and often used to describe the tongue and the words spoken in a destructive way. Where have your words been cutting and have been destructive against yourself? Against Others? We often reap what we sow with our words.
3. Pestilence – the Hebrew word is (deber) it is a plague or disease. It comes from the root word Dabar, which means to speak, decree, and command. Dabar Yahweh is the Word of the Lord. This is coming into play as a word plague. It is literally death & destructive words that are being released and spoken over you and others. Where are your agreements aligned? Are you speaking death over your city, your home, or your region? If the assignment given by every word you spoke was accomplished, what would happen to your life? (good and bad)
Not everything is always originating from you personally. I don’t believe many are going around speaking death over other people. But where we get caught is in our agreements with other people’s agendas. When we give that consent in our hearts or minds. We become a partner. “I am always sick”, “They are always causing problems.” These are judgments and agreements that you are essentially signing your name to. Like a petition list.
Take a moment to reflect on some of those problem areas in your life and see if they can be traced back to the 3 areas above. If so, acknowledge them to God that you partnered and agreed with things outside of Him, repent and He is faithful to forgive. Then get your words back in right alignment and refuse to participate with those things.
It’s important to fight the right fights. Often, those fights begin within you!
